Got questions about Uber Driver and Gig Worker Accountants?

We've got the answers you need.

You don’t have to use one, but most drivers save more in tax than they pay in fees. Gig work comes with its own quirks, such as income from several apps, choosing between mileage allowance and actual vehicle costs, platform fees, VAT questions for private hire drivers and HMRC now receiving your earnings data directly from the platforms. We work with drivers and riders every day, so we already know where the common pitfalls are.

You can either claim the simplified mileage allowance of 45p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles and 25p after that, or claim your actual costs such as fuel, insurance, repairs, servicing and a share of finance or lease costs. On top of that you can claim items like your phone, platform and app fees, private hire licences and vehicle cleaning. Once you use mileage allowance for a vehicle you must keep using it for that vehicle, so we help you choose the best method from the start.

You must register for VAT once your VAT taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in any rolling 12 month period. The rules for private hire drivers have changed recently, so how your fares are treated depends on how your platform operates. We review your earnings, explain whether registration applies to you and handle your VAT registration and returns if you need them.

Yes, if your gross self employed income is more than the £1,000 trading allowance in a tax year, you need to register as self employed and file a Self Assessment tax return by 31 January after the tax year ends. Online platforms now share driver and rider earnings with HMRC, so it is important your return is accurate. We register you, keep your records in order and file your Self Assessment on time.

Pricing depends on how many apps you work with, whether you are VAT registered and the level of support you need, from a yearly tax return through to monthly bookkeeping. We agree a clear, fixed fee upfront so there are no surprises, and we’re happy to talk it through on a free, no obligation consultation.

As accountants for Uber drivers and gig workers, we handle the switch for you. We contact your existing accountant, request handover information, register with HMRC where needed, and get your bookkeeping and Self Assessment set up so nothing falls through the cracks. Most clients are fully onboarded within a few weeks, with minimal input needed from you.
